You Must Read This If your Thinking Of Getting A
Public Defender: 4 Factors to Consider
        1) In a lawsuit against a public defenders office by an inmate in prison the
inmate brought suit  based on the fact that his public defender was not a
good attorney.   The Supreme Court of New Jersey Stated: "the right to
counsel is the right only to the effective assistance of counsel,  not to the
best counsel," Don't you want the best counsel to make sure you stay out
        of jail!

    2) Do a search on google or yahoo with the search terms public defender
and you will see that the words overworked and understaffed are the words
most frequently associated with the words public defender. Do you want
your attorney to be overworked, and understaffed when you face losing
your license or going to jail?

    3)  Call your local public defender and see if they are willing to meet with
you prior to the trial date of your case?  In most instances you will only get
voice mail and you will be extremely lucky if you ever get a call back. We
encourage you to meet with us and even offer in most cases same day free
    consultations.

    4) A public defender is almost never FREE.  Although a public defender is
usually much cheaper than an experienced private attorney as a client of
the public defenders office by law you have an obligation to pay reasonable
costs of your representation either determined by the judge in municipal
court matters or by the public defenders office in superior court matters.   If
your facing jail do you want the best defense or the cheapest defense.
Remember: If your in jail you cannot work and you will not make money.  As
the old motto goes "you get what you pay for"
