Eliminating the points on your speeding ticket (39:4-98)
Except for parking tickets, speeding tickets are the most commonly issued ticket in the United
States.  As the economy has soured and towns can no longer raise taxes without facing re-election
problems many towns are turning to law enforcement to serve as silent part-time tax collectors,
with badges.  Although speeding ticket quotas in NJ may be illegal every police officers knows that if
he does not write a certain number of traffic tickets he faces the possibility of not being promoted or
even worse terminated.   Although, your ticket may only raise a hundred or so dollars for the State
in regards to a fine, your NJ Speeding ticket can cost you thousands of dollars in increased insurance
costs, by jeopardizing your ability to get preferred insurance rates, requiring you to purchase high-
risk insurance.  In addition, to increased insurance costs you will get points on your license and for
high speed tickets, even the loss of your license and or jail for up to 15 days.  You Need A Defense!

Speeding ticket are generally grouped in three basic categories based on the speed you're alleged to
have exceeded:
  • 2 Point Ticket  (1-14mph over the limit) (see what speeding tickets should I just pay below)
  • 4 Point Ticket (15-29mph over the limit)
  • 5 Point Ticket (30mph or more above the limit) (serious penalties can apply including jail)

The Points associated with a speeding ticket can cost you thousands of dollars on your insurance.
For Insurance purposes in NJ it takes 3 years from the date of your violation/conviction for the
points to be eliminated off your insurance.  Based on your prior record, age and type of car you
drive  a simple 4 point speeding ticket can cost you thousands of dollars.  Our typical fee is much less
than most insurance companies charge, thus we can save your good driving record and your money
while keeping your record clean to reduce the chance of the next possible ticket.
For Speeding Tickets Involving High Speeds 30MPH+ or Double the Speed Limit:
A high speed ticket is considered one in which a person is going 30 or more miles over the speed limit, or double the
posted speed, whichever is less.   Although a judge can impose up to 15 days in jail for any speeding ticket, this
punishment is generally saved for the higher speed violations.  The judge may impose jail for up to 15 days, or in the
alternative a suspension of your drivers license. A suspension of your NJ Drivers License is the most likely alternative
for high speed offenders in NJ rather than jail.  That being said if your speed was so excessive that it would amount to
not only speeding but also reckless driving, jail could be imposed by the judge.  A suspension of your drivers license in
New Jersey could last from one day up to or extending past 6 months.  If your license is suspended you cannot drive.

What Speeding Tickets Should I Just Pay:
The 2 Point Ticket:  Our firm is of the opinion that for most drivers a 2 point ticket is better paid for
than fought.  Here is the logic?  A 2 point ticket will come off your motor vehicle record in one year if
you remain violation free.  Most insurance companies do not surcharge for the first 2 point ticket and
simply to hire a good lawyer for a 2 point speeding ticket will cost more than the effects this ticket
will have on your license.  Hiring a bargain basement lawyer may not get you the result you want
and you could end up paying more in fines and surcharges.  Now this opinion is not for all drivers.
Commerical Drivers, Truck Drivers and Drivers for Limo, Taxi or Uber Services generally must
remain violation free so for these drivers you must fight every speeding ticket. For other drivers
unless you already have points on your license, or were involved in an accident or other special
circumstances, save your money and time going to court and just pay the speeding ticket online.
